Seize the Change

Kavita Agarwal

Everywhere we look, we constantly see change – the weather changes through the day, cool in the morning, hot by afternoon, and again cool by evening. The plants and trees around us change at a slower pace than the weather, sprouting new leaves and flowers in spring, in full bloom by summer, lush green during monsoon, shedding leaves again by autumn and barren in the winter. Even non-living elements like rocks and pebbles change due to the climate over the years, changes that are forced by nature.

All change leads to growth or making way for the new. It is the way we evolve. When we are born, we need to be cared for by our parents. As we grow older, we learn their ways and behavior; through society and our environment, we begin to gain knowledge of various things, how we interact, the difference between right and wrong. We begin to make decisions for ourselves, all by observing other people – hearing stories of other people’s experiences, through trial and error.

The learning capacity during our formative years is very powerful, but as we age, we begin closing ourselves to new experiences. We build a comfort zone around us, of tried and tested chores and thoughts. Everything we do begins with setting limits, something which we never thought of in our childhood; as a child, we didn’t need to think twice before wanting to do something. If we found something interesting, we followed our inquisitive minds to learn as much as possible about it.

Now, the biggest excuse that we have, goes something like: ‘I don’t have time for all of this, I am already so busy trying to live my life.’ We forget that we have only one life to do everything we want. And learning and growing is the best way to evolve and keep moving forward. If we don’t try doing things differently, how will we get different results? For how many years can you live the same lifestyle, and call it growing up? What are you doing for your personal growth?

If you don’t evolve on your own, the challenges that life throws at you will define your evolution. Don’t be the stone that has to bear the harsh weather to change itself. Instead, be your own change – take charge of your own life, choose your own path for moving forward. Then, Change can be what you need it to be, not what Life forces on you, via other people or circumstances.

Constant change is a law of Life. Nobody has ever decided that they do not want to grow up and remained in the baby form, life will leave you behind or make you obsolete. You have to grow and change and learn something every single day, or you slowly start dying. Death is the lack of life, lack of change, lack of growth, lack of learning, lack of movement.

I ask you this –

Do you live every day of your existence? Or is Life just passing by?

Do you gain some learning from life daily? Are you aware of what you are doing?

Do you learn from your mistakes and failures? Or do you just cry and regret, but keep following the same patterns again and repeating the same follies?

Are you conscious of how you are growing as a person, as a family, as a society?

If the answer to any of the above questions is ‘No’, then, please realize that you are slowly dying instead of living.

You have a choice. To act, to correct, or to continue living the same way. You have a choice now.

Please live life. Don’t stay stuck in your daily routine of work, forever in pursuit of a good life.

Enjoy every moment of being alive. Just be aware of what you are doing every moment. Live before you die, because one day, we all will.

Life is in your hands. Growth is in your hands. Learning and making use of the knowledge is in your hands. Let your own decisions define your journey.
